About This Training
Problem gambling can disrupt family, financial, and relational systems, often intersecting with financial secrecy, coercive control, and intimate partner violence (IPV). This six-hour training provides an integrated systemic framework for understanding these complex dynamics.
Participants will explore how secrecy, discovery, and control interact with financial systems through the Secrecy–Trust–Control Loop, and how money can function as a mechanism of power and control.
Through case-based learning and practical tools, clinicians will strengthen their ability to assess behavioral, financial, relational, and safety risks; distinguish conflict from coercive control and IPV; and develop interventions focused on safety, financial containment, and accountability.
Learning Objectives
- Explain how problem gambling functions as a system-organizing behavior that impacts financial, relational, and family dynamics.
- Differentiate high-conflict relational dynamics from intimate partner violence, including indicators of coercive control and financial abuse.
- Apply an integrated assessment framework to evaluate gambling severity, financial risk, relational functioning, and safety concerns.
- Develop intervention plans that prioritize safety, implement financial containment strategies, and promote accountability within complex family systems.
